Our climate is changing right before our eyes, from increased extreme weather events to rising sea levels, extended wildfire seasons, and prolonged droughts that put pressure on food crops and agricultural systems.

This list is a compilation of resources from influential climate scientists and activists. One of the most effective strategies to address climate catastrophe and slow down climate change is your voice.

To do that, we must comprehend the climate issue so that we can behave appropriately.

To aid, I've created this list.

I divided the 50 strategies for limiting climate change into five groups. Although some of the items may fit into more than one category, as you'll see, I hope this helps put things in perspective and provides you with some ideas for what you can do in your own life to slow down climate change.

None of these 50 things are attainable by anyone. It is crucial that we comprehend how the system functions and take action. Finding ways to participate that are compatible with our individual interests, passions, and strengths is crucial.

EFFECTIVE ENERGY SAVING

We can significantly reduce our emissions by improving the energy efficiency of our homes and places of business because more than one-third of our emissions are caused by the electricity we use. Net zero emissions is our goal.

Unused appliances should be turned off and unplugged. Utilize appliances and lightbulbs with low energy consumption.

You reduce pollution and spend less money when you use less energy. Think about implementing any or all of these minor adjustments. Together, they have a lot of potential.

1. Furnace-equipped homes are analogous to cars that sit idle all day. Replace your furnace with a heat pump, which moves heat from one place to another by removing it from the original source.
2. Place a programmable thermostat in place
3. Change from a gas to an electric stove to reduce indoor air pollution.
4. When not in use, unplug all gadgets, including computers, TVs, and other devices.
5. Use cold water to wash your items. If you can, hang dry your clothing; if not, use dryer balls.
6. When purchasing new appliances, look for the Energy Star label.
7. Use compostable disposable cutlery for family gatherings
8. Winterize your home to stop heat from escaping, and try to keep it cool without an air conditioner in the summer.

9. Switch to energy-saving light bulbs.

10. Get an energy audit for your house or place of business to see where you can save the most energy.

SAVE WATER (WHICH SAVES ENERGY)

The energy required to pump, clean, and heat water is considerable, so conserving water lowers greenhouse gas emissions. It's easy to conserve water around the house.

Pumping and treating water consumes 3% of the country's total energy, therefore conserving water also saves energy, which lowers greenhouse gas emissions. whenever possible, cut back on the garbage you produce and the water you use.

 Here are other practical ways to save water;

11. Reduce your utility bills by using less energy to heat and pump water.
12. Delay or avoid the expansion of expensive water and wastewater treatment plants in your community to save money on taxes.
13. Checking for leaks on a regular basis helps to ensure that you are not wasting water. The most common source of water leakage is toilets.
14. Water-saving devices like water faucet aerators can help you save water in your home.
15. Install low-flow toilets and fixtures.
16. Never leave the water running while washing, brushing your teeth, or shaving.
17. Turn off the faucets firmly (but gently) so that they do not drip.
18. Shower for a shorter period of time.
19. Install low-flow toilets and fixtures.
20. Never leave the water running while washing, brushing your teeth, or shaving.
21. Turn off the faucets firmly (but gently) so that they do not drip.
22. Shower for a shorter period of time.
23. Deep-soak your lawn, long enough for the moisture to soak down to the roots where it will do the best.
24. Water in the morning to eliminate evaporation.
25. Adjust sprinklers to water lawns and not driveways or the sidewalk.
26. Avoid watering on windy days.
27. Put a layer of mulch around trees and plants. Mulch will slow the evaporation of moisture and discourage weed growth too.
28. Use a broom, not a hose, to clean driveways and sidewalks.
29. When washing your car, rather than use a running hose consider using a bucket, a sponge, and a hose with a trigger nozzle.
30. Check garden hoses and connections frequently and keep them drip-free.
31. Do the laundry only when really necessary.

CHANGE YOUR TRANSPORTATION

Did you know that transportation is the largest single source of greenhouse gas emissions? And the climate needs our help now more than ever.
So, is it possible to achieve change by changing our transportation system? How? Public transportation is critical for combating climate change as environmentalists say.

I'll enumerate some of the reasons below:

32. Every vehicle on the road releases one pound of Carbon dioxide per mile traveled. Taking public transportation instead of driving alone reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 45%, lowering pollutants in the atmosphere and improving air quality.
33. Fewer cars in favor of active transportation such as bikes means more sustainable bike paths and lanes.
34. Dust off your old bike, roller skates, or skateboard, and go emission-free!
Driving a car releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and contributes to climate change, but you can reduce your emissions, lessen our country's reliance on oil, and save money by making a few simple changes.

Here are some suggestions for when you're on the road.
35. Consider buying a hybrid or electric car.
36. Why don't you invest wisely in a low-emissions, fuel-efficient vehicle?
37. Slow down, don't slam on the brakes, and go for a casual pace when accelerating to save gas and cut pollution.
38. Check your tire pressure on a regular basis.

You can quickly estimate your carbon footprint using carbon footprint calculators. This calculator will cover the carbon footprint of your household, different modes of transportation and personal activities.

REVISIT CONSUMPTION

The consequences of climate change are already endangering our children's future, our economy, our security, and our health.
How can you help to prevent climate collapse? We still need to actively transition away from polluting fossil fuels and toward cleaner forms of energy.

But it's crucial to keep in mind the equally significant contributions that private citizens—that is, people like you—can make.

Now, let's name ways we can rethink our consumption.

39. Change Yourself. Changing your own habits in the right ways before teaching others how to do so is a key factor in long-term change. We increase our chances of influencing someone who needs a push in the right direction by setting a good example.
40. Eat Plant-Based Foods. Food systems are responsible for roughly one-third of all global greenhouse gas emissions, and we consume food at least three times a day. Plant-based foods are the most environmentally friendly, and experts consistently back this up.
41. Get Ready to Vote. Simply put, certain political parties are more likely than others to contribute significantly more to environmental protection.
42. Join A Green Bank. Many of us would not associate our banking institutions with environmental destruction. However, because banks are also investors, they have the ability to invest in environmentally friendly products or not.
43. Recycle. Recycling isn't new, but not all are familiar with it. Plastic bags and hard plastics take 10–100 years to degrade in landfills. So, we should think about our usage. Use recycling apps to make recycling easy and fun for the environment.
44. Changing Our Diet. Reducing our consumption of meat and dairy is also very beneficial.
45. Buying Used Clothing. This is not only environmentally friendly, but also fashionable.
46. Utilize a Renewable Energy Source. Fossil fuels are harmful and unsustainable. To generate our own power, we can use solar panels or a personal wind turbine.
47. Donate To Address Climate Crisis. There are over 460 nonprofits dedicated to environmental causes in the United States alone, so make a plan on where to give your donations.
48. Fight Against Disinformation. When reading any article, check to see if references are included, and if so, whether they are from reputable, peer-reviewed sources.
49. Participate in Youth-Led Movements. Greta Thunberg demonstrated the power of youth voices. It makes sense that youth should lead because they will inherit the planet people are destroying.
50. Discuss Climate Change. The more conversations we have, the more likely it is that someone will leave with a new perspective on how to fight the global warming issue.

Conclusion

Fighting climate change is a massive project, but it is one to which we can all contribute in our daily lives. Going vegan, recycling, green banking, conserving water, and conserving energy are all excellent ways to address climate change.
The power of our collective voice is equally important, so joining movements, being politically active, and having positive conversations about climate change is extremely important.
