A U.S. wholesaler needed a custom bagasse meal container for portion-controlled prepared meals. The product had to pair with a clear PET lid, maintain its performance during refrigerated storage for at least eight days and present a standard meal portion without excessive empty space.
Ancheng coordinated the container structure, capacity, barrier solution, tooling and lid supply as one development project. After several rounds of evaluation and sampling, the customer approved the final 532 ml container, completed an audit of Ancheng’s Cambodia factory and confirmed a formal order.

The customer is a U.S. wholesaler with stable purchasing demand and experience in food packaging products. It required a molded fiber meal container for prepared meals with controlled portion sizes.
The project began with an existing bagasse container style, but the complete requirement extended beyond finding a standard bowl. The customer also needed a clear PET lid, reliable resistance to oil and moisture during refrigerated storage and a capacity that matched the intended meal portion.
The final product needed to meet several connected requirements:
- Sugarcane bagasse construction
- Clear PET lid compatibility
- Refrigerated storage for at least eight days
- No oil or moisture penetration during the required storage period
- No unacceptable softening of the container
- A 532 ml capacity suitable for portion-controlled meals
- The required opening dimensions and overall height
These requirements affected the container structure, barrier treatment, tooling and lid supply, so they could not be addressed separately.
The client initially shared a design from one of our existing container lines. However, the existing version used a bagasse lid, while the customer required a transparent PET lid that allowed the packaged meal to remain visible.
Ancheng reviewed available lid options and coordinated a matching clear PET lid for the container. The initial container also required a higher material weight to achieve the product quality expected by the customer.
After these adjustments, Ancheng prepared the first sample set for evaluation.
The customer later clarified that the completed package needed to remain refrigerated for at least 8 days without oil or moisture penetrating the container or the bowl becoming unacceptably soft.
A conventional untreated bagasse container could not reliably satisfy this application requirement. An initial film-lamination proposal involved additional tooling and raised the overall development cost.
Ancheng therefore evaluated an alternative barrier solution that could improve resistance to oil and moisture without requiring a separate lamination mold. This provided a more practical route for continued sampling and product development.
The final sample met the customer’s refrigerated-storage requirements and received approval.
After reviewing the sample, the customer’s end customer found that the original 850 ml container was too large for the intended meal portion.
When the standard portion was placed inside the container, the remaining empty space made the meal appear smaller. This affected the customer’s presentation requirements even though the container had sufficient physical capacity.
The customer therefore requested a new 532 ml version while retaining the required opening dimensions and overall height.
Ancheng revised the internal structure and developed new tooling to reduce the usable capacity from 850 ml to 532 ml. The adjusted design created a fuller presentation for the intended portion while preserving the external format required by the customer.
The customer was very satisfied with the new sample. Samples were prepared for the customer’s review throughout the development process. Before confirming the order, the customer also required a factory audit.
Ancheng arranged the audit at its Cambodia factory and provided the necessary production and factory information. The customer completed the audit successfully and continued with the project.

- Revised internal structure for portion-controlled meals

Ancheng helped the customer move from an existing 850 ml container concept to a custom 532 ml packaging solution developed for a specific prepared-meal application.
The final container provided a better fit for the intended portion, maintained the required external format and worked with a clear PET lid. Its barrier performance met the customer’s refrigerated-storage requirements.
After reviewing the final samples and completing the factory audit, the customer approved the solution and placed a formal order.
